Get Your Glow On: The Best Products for Glowing Skin

Get Your Glow On!
As women, we're used to faking lots of things: smiles, cries, tans, orgasms, etc. and now that I'm pregnant I've found a new thing to fake . . . my pregnancy glow.

Pregnant or not, what women doesn’t want luminous, glowing skin? I’ve had facials, peels, IPL, and have tried tons of different Skincare products to try to achieve that natural glow, but honestly none of them have given me the kind of natural glow where I could just walk out of the door without any makeup feeling like my skin looked amazing. Now that I’m pregnant, I was hoping it was my time to shine but I never got that pregnancy glow that women rave about so I’ve taken matters into my own hands and have just been faking it.

I’ve gotten tons of compliments about how I’m glowing lately, and I let people think it’s that natural preggo glow, but here’s what I’ve really been using to fake it:

Nars, The Multiple:  This is the best stick option available in a variety of colors that you can use on your eyes, cheeks or lips anytime you need a pop of shimmery color.

  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette:  You know how certain light makes your skin look absolutely amazing?  Well this trio of powders is meant to do just that – it diffuses and softens the way that light reflects on your skin so no matter what light you’re in, you’re always going to be camera-ready.
  • Benefit, High Beam:  If a soft, pink, dewy look is what you want, this is what will give it to you.
  • Bobbi Brown, Shimmer Brick:  Bronzed Goddess anyone?
  • YSL, Touche Eclat:  If you buy only one product, this is it.  No sleep, no problem – this magic wand erases those dreaded under-eye black circles and instantly brightens your entire complexion.
  • Josie Maran, Argan Illuminizer:  One of my favorite natural brands, a bit of this mixed in with your foundation will give your skin a mega-glow that will last all day long.

    Tarte Makeup Sets

    tarte

I’m a total makeup junkie, and nothing gets me more excited than makeup sets that are packed with a ton of products to try out and play with.  I went to Sephora a couple of weeks ago and saw these two gift sets from Tarte and decided that I was definitely deserving of them and treated myself to both.  Tarte is one of my favorite makeup brands because not only are they natural, but they have a ton of products to choose from that all totally work and last.

If you’ve never tried Tarte before, then the Bon Voyage Collector’s Set & Travel Bag is the perfect intro to the brand and is packed with 20 different eyeshadow shades, mascara, cheek and lip stain, lip gloss and tint, finishing powder and maracuja oil that all fit into a super cute travel bag.  It’s also a great value – it’s got $423 worth of products for only $59 – you just can’t beat that!

If you’re a lip girl and love your lipsticks and glosses, then the Kiss & Bell Set is for you.  It comes with 4 glossy lip tints, 2 matte lip tints, and 2 glosses that are all infused with antioxidants that keep your lips moisturized and help smooth out those pesky fine lines and wrinkles around your lips.

I was in Hawaii last week and brought both of these sets with me, along with an eyeliner, powder, another Tarte blush and that’s it – nothing else!  Everything fit perfectly into the travel bag, and I had a ton of options to choose from for my whole trip, without having to carry a ton of different products.

With the holidays right around the corner they both make perfect gifts for others, or you can always just gift yourself like I did 😉

Fall Beauty & Makeup Trends for 2014

Along with whipping out your boots and scarves, don’t forget to update your makeup look to go along with them!  Here are some of my favorite makeup trends to rock this fall:

    SMOKY, METALLIC BROWN EYES:

    fall-2014-nyfw-makeup-looks-oscar-de-la-renta

Smoky eye perfection at Oscar de la Renta

I’m always a sucker for a dark, smoky and metallic eye and there’s no better time than fall to wear this trend.  The focus is on your eyes, so keep the rest of your makeup neutral and soft, and let your eyes do the talking.  Some of my favorite products to achieve this sultry look is “Bobbi’s Chocolates” by Bobbi Brown which features three long-wearing dramatic shadows guaranteed to last for up to 12 hours without smudging or leaving you looking like a raccoon, or if you’re looking for a natural and more budget-friendly  trio, the “Baked Collection” by Physician’s Formula can be applied wet or dry so you can go as subtle or dramatic as you’d like.

    BOLD BROWS, BERRY LIPS:

Bold brows + berry lip perfection at the Rebecca Minkoff show

If you’re looking to channel your inner Cara Delevigne and looking for a fearless, fall statement, then look no further than the bold brow and berry lip combo.  This combo will have you exuding confidence and sexiness, with very little effort and if you’re not feeling the combo, then stick to either just the brows or the lips and you’ll still be right on trend.  Nobody knows brows better than Anastasia, and her Brow Wiz  pencil couldn’t be easier to use, and with a variety of colors you’ll have no problem finding the right brow shade.  As for berry lips, Valparaiso by Nars is a gorgeous matte version, Hourglass in Icon is a great natural and long-lasting option,  or if you’re looking for something more subtle than try Sugar’s Berry Tinted lip treatment.  The rest of your makeup should be minimal and I’d recommend starting with your regular base face makeup (foundation, powder or whatever you prefer), a couple of coats of mascara and a subtle brush of blush on your cheeks so that the real focus can be on your brows and lips.

     SOFT PINK:

    DVF

Ballerina-inspired beauty at the DVF show

Looking for a softer look this fall?  Diane von Furstenberg nailed the ballerina-off-duty look at her show with luminous skin and soft-pink hues.  Start with a light tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier’s, add some soft shimmer and sheen to your cheeks and eyes with a multipurpose powder like Stila’s All Over Shimmer Duo, and end with a light pink lip gloss like Turkish Delight  by Nars or Neutrogen’s Fruity Pink.

    Yes To…Natural Beauty Products

As you know, I’m always obsessed with finding the best natural beauty products out there and one of my favorite skin care lines by far is Yes To. Yes To is everything that I want in a skin care line – the packaging is modern and cute, the products are natural and made from organic fruits and vegetables and are free of parabens, petroleum, SLS and phthalates, they smell good, they make your skin feel and look good,  they’re totally affordable, you get educated about the ingredients that are in the products, and best of all – they just work! They have six collections of products under the Yes To line – blueberries, carrots, cucumbers, grapefruit, tomatoes and coconuts – each of which targets different needs for different skin types. They make everything from facial cleansers, makeup remover, SPF, anti-aging products, chap stick, hair care and more. It’s a fun, youthful brand that makes natural skin products cool, which is something that’s lacking in a lot of other natural beauty lines that just seem old and dated. You can find their products basically everywhere at stores like Target, CVS, Rite Aid and Amazon, or you can find more information and purchase their products on their website as well http://www.yestocarrots.com.

These are just a few of my fav products that I use on a daily basis and can’t live without:

Grapefruit Daily Scrub: I love this scrub because it’s a finer texture than other scrubs that I’ve used in the past, and leaves my skin feeling really soft and smooth. Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub, 4 Ounce

Cucumber Eye Makeup Remover Pads: These are really lightweight, gentle, non-greasy, remove all traces of eye-makeup and leave your lids feeling as cool as a cucumber. Yes To Cucumbers Eye Makeup Remover Pads, 45 Count

Facial Towelettes: I love both the blueberry and cucumber towelettes – they remove dirt and makeup, without over-drying your skin. Great for those late nights when you come home too late, too buzzed, and can’t be bothered with fully washing your face. Yes To Cucumber Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes, 30 Count (Pack of 2)

Blueberry Skin Repair Serum: I was really surprised how well this worked on my skin. Within just a couple of weeks my skin was noticeably smoother, and I saw a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on my forehead which is something no natural product to date that I’ve used has been able to do. Yes To Blueberries Intensive Skin Repair Serum, 1-Fluid Ounce

Carrots Super Rich Body Butter: I’m partial to body lotions because I feel like most body butters are too thick and hard to absorb, but this body butter completely changed my mind. It’s thick, creamy and luxurious without being heavy, and leaves my skin feeling softer than any product I’ve ever used. Another added bonus – a girlfriend of mine that just had her second child used it during her pregnancy to help prevent stretch marks and it totally worked!

Tomatoes Roller Ball Spot Stick: This really is a miracle product for treating and targeting your breakouts. It’s the only on the spot treatment that’s ever worked for me, and I love the ease of the roller ball applicator. Yes To Tomatoes Acne Treatment Spot Stick, 0.5 Fluid Ounce

Lip Balms: I love using these for a cas dose of color instead of lipstick. With different colors and flavors to choose from, these balms leave your lips soft and smooth, with a hint of glossy color. Yes To Carrots Color Lip Balm, Rosy Bloom, 0.11 Ounce

How Toxic Are Your Beauty Products?

Like all you fab femmes out there, I love makeup and trying out new products. Sephora is my version of a candy store, and I can literally get lost in there for hours going through and trying out all of their products. However, I recently read that the average woman absorbs around 5 pounds of chemicals from her beauty/makeup products each year (shocking, right?!) and since then I’ve been on a mission to find healthier and less toxic beauty products because the thought of absorbing chemicals from makeup makes my stomach turn. I came across the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG’s) Skin Deep database http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ that contains information about the toxicity levels in over 79,000 of the most popular makeup/skincare products out there, and rates them on a scale of 0 to 10 on how toxic they are. They help you break down and understand the ingredients in the products, and also provide great tips on buying safer products so definitely check it out to see how some of your fav products stack up to the toxic test.
