Fall Beauty & Makeup Trends for 2014

Along with whipping out your boots and scarves, don’t forget to update your makeup look to go along with them!  Here are some of my favorite makeup trends to rock this fall:

Smoky eye perfection at Oscar de la Renta

I’m always a sucker for a dark, smoky and metallic eye and there’s no better time than fall to wear this trend.  The focus is on your eyes, so keep the rest of your makeup neutral and soft, and let your eyes do the talking.  Some of my favorite products to achieve this sultry look is “Bobbi’s Chocolates” by Bobbi Brown which features three long-wearing dramatic shadows guaranteed to last for up to 12 hours without smudging or leaving you looking like a raccoon, or if you’re looking for a natural and more budget-friendly  trio, the “Baked Collection” by Physician’s Formula can be applied wet or dry so you can go as subtle or dramatic as you’d like.

Bold brows + berry lip perfection at the Rebecca Minkoff show

If you’re looking to channel your inner Cara Delevigne and looking for a fearless, fall statement, then look no further than the bold brow and berry lip combo.  This combo will have you exuding confidence and sexiness, with very little effort and if you’re not feeling the combo, then stick to either just the brows or the lips and you’ll still be right on trend.  Nobody knows brows better than Anastasia, and her Brow Wiz  pencil couldn’t be easier to use, and with a variety of colors you’ll have no problem finding the right brow shade.  As for berry lips, Valparaiso by Nars is a gorgeous matte version, Hourglass in Icon is a great natural and long-lasting option,  or if you’re looking for something more subtle than try Sugar’s Berry Tinted lip treatment.  The rest of your makeup should be minimal and I’d recommend starting with your regular base face makeup (foundation, powder or whatever you prefer), a couple of coats of mascara and a subtle brush of blush on your cheeks so that the real focus can be on your brows and lips.

Ballerina-inspired beauty at the DVF show

Looking for a softer look this fall?  Diane von Furstenberg nailed the ballerina-off-duty look at her show with luminous skin and soft-pink hues.  Start with a light tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier’s, add some soft shimmer and sheen to your cheeks and eyes with a multipurpose powder like Stila’s All Over Shimmer Duo, and end with a light pink lip gloss like Turkish Delight  by Nars or Neutrogen’s Fruity Pink.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Recipe

I love fall for many reasons:  The weather is starting to cool down and I get to start wearing my boots and scarves again, the leaves are starting to change colors, and most importantly….it’s pumpkin season! I love pumpkin everything – from pie, to ice cream, to bread, to ravioli, to lattes, I just can’t get enough of it.  Not only is it totally delish, but there are a lot of health benefits to pumpkin as well since they’re loaded with tons of essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.  As you know I’m a total shake addict usually have to have my daily protein shake, and one of my favorites is definitely this Pumpkin Pie Protein shake.  It’s great to start your day out with, or as a guilt-free sweet treat in place of dessert.

1 1/2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or whatever other milk you love)
1 scoop of Vega One vanilla or vanilla chai shake powder (or any other vanilla protein powder you prefer)
1/4 cup organic canned pumpkin
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice OR 1/2 tsp. cinnamon; 1/4 tsp. nutmeg; 1/2 tsp. ginger
handful of ice
2-3 pitted, chopped dates (optional)
stevia or honey to taste (optional)
Directions: Dump all the ingredients in your blender, blend until smooth and creamy.  Enjoy!
